Surrounded by the sandy Costa Blanca beaches and the crystalline waters of the Mediterranean Sea, Alicante has a rich heritage built over thousands of years. Alacant (as it's known in Valencian) has a deep history ranging from the first tribes that arrived at the slopes of Mount Benacantil to Greeks, Romans and Moors. Nowadays, this modern city features a bustling harbor, great Spanish nightlife, charming old streets and modern beach resorts.
Overlooking the city from the top of Mount Benacantil, the Castle of Santa Barbara was built during Islamic rule in the 9th century. Cascading down the slopes towards the center of the city, L'Ereta Park has terraced levels that offer stunning panoramic views of the city. The remains of the ancient Roman town of Lucentum are also just a few miles away.
Barrio de la Santa Cruz is the historic quarter, featuring narrow streets, old houses and cobbled steps. Framed by palm trees and covered with a snaking pattern of white, red and blue tiles, the Explanada de Espana is considered one of Spain’s most beautiful promenades.
After arriving at Alicante Airport, indulge yourself in a resort near San Juan beach, or enjoy the view of luxurious yachts moored at the marina from a cozy B&B: Booking.com has the perfect spot for you to discover the magic of Alicante!
Alicante is a great place for a break. The views from Castle Santa Barbara overlooking the city are amazing, and there is a lively Old Town (El Barrio) with a wide selection of bars and restaurants. It's great to have a drink in one of the bars by the port and the two main beaches, Playa del Postiguet and San Juan, are clean and spacious.

Underrated as a destination - most folks seem to fly into Alicante and go elsewhere; they are missing out!
Great beach, excellent bars and restaurants. Recommended bars: Austins (excellent value cocktails), Red Corner sports bar for beers after a walk around town, Restaurante la Taverna Dell´ Artista for gluten free meals. Cafe Al Carrtoccio (C. de la Virgen del Socorro) for excellent and cheap coffee with a sea view.
A big, big plus was gluten free food and beer - everyone was aware, and people really took care of my wife's celiac disease requirements.
The old town is great for wandering around, a great castle, and a great beach.

Alicante is quite a small city but it is beautiful.
Alicante is quite a small city but it is beautiful. There is so much to do and see and the beaches are stunning. The cost of food and drinks on average are ok however there are some bars and restaurants especially on the beach that cost double of those in the city centre. Don’t be afraid to ask the cost before you purchase.

Barbara Castle: walk up or get a lift (€3, over 65's free), historuc, good views. City walking tour by locals brought us to old town places we would have missed. MUBAG Art Museum had a Dali exhib, Portraits in a lovely old building. Trams are great for Costa Blanca beaches. Good bus services. Trains to Murcia. Music @ Teatro Principal as a Jazz festival was on (April). Very good restaurants - fish & seafood eg Dorada / Bream, Prawns; Tapas - we were happy with all our meals.

Lovely city. Old town very compact with great restaurants and a nice buzz about the place. The beach is lovely with nice beach restaurants and bars dotted along that were reasonably priced.

Lovely city close to the beach and marina.
Lovely city close to the beach and marina. Tourist attractions such as Santa Barbara Castle and The Ocean Race were free.
The Castle is well worth visiting, with wonderful views of the city and sea. I was disappointed that the toilets were filthy and lacking basic amenities such as toilet paper and hand dryer. There's a fee of €2.70 for the lift. However, I would have preferred to pay a small entrance fee and have clean toilets. There's a nice cafe at the top with great staff.
I would not recommend Alicante for solo travellers. It's very couple or groups orientated and the staff in restaurants are not friendly for lone travellers.
I also found food and drink prices very expensive.
Very accessible and within easy reach of the marina, restaurants and Alicante city centre. The C6 from the Airport stops within 5 minutes walk from the hotel. The tram stop just 5 mins walk from the hotel can take you to San Juan for two fabulous restaurants Casa Domingo and Casa Julio (Take the tram to Londres and walk up the white sandy beach for ten minutes or stop at Costa Blanca and walk towards the beach for these lunch-only restaurants. remember to book ahead!) If you have to be in Alicante, this is a great hotel to use.
The apartment was very clean and very quiet, and compact. The best thing was waking up next to a big window with a huge view of the sea and the sunrise streaming in, with a coffee from the machine. It is a quiet area with a nice beach nearby. Not many restaurants, but only a 6 minute tram ride to the bustle of the Alicante sea front. So it was the perfect formula, out in the city for drinks and food, then home to tranquility and a good sleep, followed by a glorious way to wake up the next morning.
The location was great. The hotel is right across the basilica. The hotel is in old building, its lovely, narrow corridors, it's cozy. It has a nice terrace, we did not make use of it but people were enjoying their evenings. They were so friendly that they let us check-in a bit earlier because we arrived quite early to Alicante. It's close to the city centre, we walked to the city and an just 10 minutes walk to the metro station to go to the beach.
Basic but well kept, clean hotel with small but seems modern, renovated room. Equipped with all the nessessary things exept a fridge, what is a big disadvantage. Maybe thats why one of the cheapest hotel in Alicante. Reception stuff is kind, helpful. Location is really gond but the beach is 15-20minutes away.. But 5 minutes from airport bus, mercado, szupermarket, city centre. Breakfast in thr Coffee shop of the hotel in the hotel building.
B&B hotels are always reliable and at a very reasonable price. Great service by the friendly staff, who are multilingual. Great breakfast on premises, comfy rooms and beds. The hotel is out of the way from the city center, which makes it quiet, and it's also quite near to the beaches south of Alicante, where you can find nice little beach front restaurants and clean beaches. Would definitely stay again!
We have stayed in here twice before pre covid and it is still an excellent hotel. It is located in a quiet area approx. a 10 minute walk from city centre and it is near to C6 airport bus stops. Room was large and had a very comfortable bed. There was a coffee machine - TV had UK Sky news channel. Both room and bathroom were very clean. Hotel reception personnel were efficient and helpful.
Hotel Maritimo offers one of the best locations in Alicante. It’s just a block away from the city’s famous boulevard/plaza and just about a wee walking distance to the beach. I would stay here again next summer! Great friendly staff, the AC functions well which is really soothing after a day out in the sun. They also offer some beach items for their guests, like towels and umbrellas.
The owner imposes the installation of an App that collects the customer's document plus a selfie to give access to the apartment; to activate their App you must activate bluetooth and location services; location services can be switched off, after.
The data collected by their mandatory mobile App exceeds Police requirements; in Spain no hotel takes "selfies" of customers.
Great attention to detail..better than a 5 star hotel. The host went out of his way to make sure everything went smoothly. Managed to check us in early. Helped us carry our luggage as well. Complimentary wine was a plus. Fully stocked kitchen
Great position. Triple glazed windows and shutters to cocoon you in. Great experience. The only place I'll stay in Alicante.
The value for money compared to the other properties around Alicante was brilliant. The walk was an easy 20-30 minute stroll to the centre, but there's also nice local bakeries etc if you head north from the hotel. The bus stop to and from the airport is right outside the hotel.
The staff were very helpful. Our shower broke, and it was fixed right away.
It's a good location if you want to stay Away from tge Central area due to noise and crowded, it is almost in the middle of alicante airport and city with 7 kilometers each side. Hotel is sitting on the banks of sea but you can only see it as the sea side is protected by netwirs. When you check in ask for rooms facing tge sea for better view.
Extremelly clean and tidy place. Very cozy and stylish with comfortable bed. Lovely continential breakfast and the best coffee in town offered by the owner. The hotel is in a very good location with walking distance to the old town, castle, railway station and the buss to airport just around the corner. Highly recomended if travelling in area.
The staff was polite and helpful, and that is very important to us. Although the hotel is located in the centre, there is no noise coming from outside (we could therefore enjoy sleeping without destructions). The room has plenty of space and the facilities are quite new. We definitely recommend La City Mercado for your stay in Alicante.
The hotel is very nice, central to walking anywhere in Alicante. To beach, to Castle, marina and many restaurant options in the area. Took number C6 bus from airport and the stop was right across the street. We walked 10 minutes to the train station for our next destination. Breakfast was good, varied and continuously replenished.
Well equipped kitchen, perfect for a stay in Alicante. Comfortable bed and even though we were in the city it was quiet. A lovely outside area, very private, with eating area, sun beds and a very nice seating area. We appreciated the tea tray that was left for us, a nice touch. We would definitely stay there again.
For a budget hotel it was a very small and basic room but the hotel had everything you needed. Very clean, really comfy bed, helpful pleasant staff and a good varied breakfast. Also in a great location; handy for the airport and short bus ride from across the road into Alicante.
We went to Alicante for the bonfires of San Juan and this hotel was a great place to stay. The staff were very friendly and helpful with advice on where to go for the best views. Hotel is close to the city centre and not too far from the beach
Amazing place to stay. I highly recommend it! The best place I stayed in Spain so far. Excellent service, very clean, and great facilities. Everything you need in a perfect location for Alicante!
Location was ideal only. 50 metres from c6airport bus stop near melia hotel at Port area near lots of nice restaurant s drinks are expensive at front line bars cheaper in city
